Can i make an online booking?
Yes, you certainly can. Just click on our booking form and enter your details. Alternatively, send us an email.
If i rent a campervan in New Zealand is insurance included?
Yes full comprehensive insurance is included. The excess is according to age.
How do i pay for my campervan?
We use the www.wise.com payment system. We also accept MasterCard / Visa credit cards. ( Surcharge applies )
Do you take a deposit?
Yes, a 20% deposit of the total rental charge is required to secure your booking. Bookings are not confirmed until the deposit is received. The balance of payment must be paid in full 7 days before picking up the campervan.
What is the cancellation policy?
- Up to 42 days before the pickup date no charge.
- 41 days to 21 days before the pickup date 50% of the deposit.
- 20 days to 7 days before the pickup date, 100% of your deposit.
- Within 7 days of the pickup date or no show no refund
INSURANCE, EXCESS and who can DRIVE the hired Campervan
I'm 19 years old, can i drive the campervan?
Yes, you can. The minimum age is 18 years, and your excess will be NZ$ 3000.00
What driver's licence do i need?
As an international visitor, you can use your overseas driver’s licence for up to 12 months in New Zealand. If it is not printed in English, you must carry either an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an approved, certified English translation.
How much is the Excess?
The excess for driver’s between 18 and 21 years of age is NZ$ 3000.00. Between 21 and 25 years of age NZ$ 2500.00. Above 25 years of age NZ$ 2000.00
Do you offer excess reduction insurance?
Yes, we offer an all-inclusive cover option to bring your excess to zero.
Does the standard insurance cover windscreen damage?
Yes, it does. Check our T&C what it all covers.
Is an additional driver included?
Yes additional drivers are included.
DEPOTS, PICK-UP and DROP-OFF info
Where can i collect and return my campervan?
We have depots conveniently located in both Auckland and Christchurch.
Can I start my campervan adventure in Auckland and finish in Christchurch? Or vice-versa?
Yes, one-way rentals between our North and South Island depots are welcome.
Is there a fee for one-way rentals?
Fees vary by season, but we always display them upfront when quoting.
Do you provide airport transfers?
Yes, we provide free transfers to and from Auckland Airport and Christchurch Airport. Please contact us to make arrangements.
What if i'm staying in an accommodation?
We can also pick you up from your accommodation or from the train or bus station. Please contact us to make arrangements.
CAMPERVAN and GREEN Self-Containment info
Are all your 2-berth campervans certified self-contained?
Yes, our entire fleet is fully certified self-contained.
What does it means to hire a green stickered self-contained campervan in New Zealand?
Hiring a “green self-contained campervan” in New Zealand means renting a vehicle officially certified under the country’s stringent regulations to hold its own water, wastewater, and waste for at least three days and has a integrated toilet.
What living equipment is included in the campervan hire?
Toaster (240V), crockery with cutlery and cooking utensils, coffee maker (French press ), camping chairs and table, dustpan and broom, bucket, towels, fan heater (240V), bedding with duvet, sheets and extra blanket.
Is RUC ( Road user charges ) included?
Yes, RUC for our BANZ GRANDE model, which runs on diesel, is included. For Petrol vehicles like the 2 Berth Deluxe model, RUC does not apply.

Are BANZ Travelcars campervans manual or automatic?
Our fleet features automatic transmissions to ensure a relaxed and smooth driving experience on New Zealand’s winding, hilly terrain.
CAMPING and DRIVING in New Zealand
Where am I allowed to sleep at night?
At freedom camping sites, DOC conservation campsites, or commercial holiday parks.
Can i just park up anywhere?
No, you must follow local council bylaws and look for camping signs.
Are there any roads i'm not allowed to drive on?
Yes
- Ninety-Mile Beach – Northland or any Beach
- All roads North of Colville township on the Coromandel Peninsula
- Skippers Road, Skippers Canyon Queenstown
- Ball Hut Road, Mount Cook
What about the North Island toll roads? Do i pay at the end of my trip?
No, New Zealand’s toll roads are included in your rental package. We want to keep things simple.
Is Roadside Assistance included?
Yes, every rental includes 24/7 mechanical roadside assistance anywhere in New Zealand.
Miscellaneous
Should i download any Apps before i arrive?
Yes, we recommend downloading CamperMate and/or Rankers NZ immediately.
How do I book the Interislander or Bluebridge ferry?
If you plan to travel between the North and South Islands, we highly recommend booking your Cook Strait ferry crossings well in advance, especially during the peak summer months (December to February). You can book directly with Interislander or Bluebridge.
What is the best way to pack?
To make the most of your BANZ Travelcars 2-berth campervan, you need to pack differently than you would for a hotel holiday. Space is optimized for living and sleeping, meaning rigid suitcases will get in your way. Please bring soft, collapsible bags that can be folded flat and tucked away into under-seat storage or cupboards.
